And More ...

I have six other blocks that just need the last round sewn on. I'm finished for the day.

It's time for hand stitching while watching the Carolina vs Atlanta game. Go Panthers!

Progress

I continued with my railroad crossing blocks this morning. I am so loving the growing top. Lots of different fabrics to look at and remember. Loving the rich colors in these blocks.

Checking all sides.

Twice just to make sure.

New Project

That I hope will be a retreat class in October this year. This quilt is similar to one I made and gifted to Denise. I wanted more definition (black) and a secondary pattern.instead of using strings for the light areas I used fabric from my stash.

These color strings blocks have been made and have been sitting in the corner very neglected. This does not even put a dent in the pile.

To think I need to sew more strings as the string drawers are busting.

Even the cut off pieces get used, for the border. I will most likely put a black border on before the scrappy border. I'm really liking the top. I think I will call it railroad crossing.

Quilted

I finished the freehand quilting on Caitlin's quilt this afternoon. I used a perma core thread in a pink color, 80 / 20 blend batting. The quilting is a daisy petal swirl pattern.

Isn't this pink fabric beautiful?

I did get the binding cut, sewed together and attached to the quilt. Due to my time restraints I am seriously considering machine stitching the other side of the binding. Then I would only have the label to finish. Sounds like a plan to me. OMG tomorrow is Christmas Eve. Tomorrow will be a baking day. I will have help and it will be a fun day!

Look who is helping me...

And it's not the cats! Meet Devon my grand son.

Sewing string blocks.

This was yesterday / last night.

This morning I went to shower and guess who was at the sewing machine, how funny and this made me feel GOOD!

After a run to get a hair cut and a visit to Walmart we will be back at it.

Grand Daughter Quilt Top Finished

Yeh!!!! I even conquered mitered corners!

Caitlin wanted a new quilt in the colors of pink, purple, black and blue. I used one color per border and then mitered them.

Grand Daughters New Quilt

My grand daughter wanted a more grown up quilt for her bed.
She is seven and growing up fast. Here is where I am at so far.

She asked for black, blue, purple and pink. This is my interpretation.

I have borders picked out. I'm happy with the progress I've made.

And a kitty picture. Hubs was eating a sandwich and was being starred down lol.

Grand Illusion Part Three

Working as much as I can on part three.

This group of twenty needs to be taken apart and re sewn so that black ends up on the left side.

Looking forward to the next part. I'm like a kid at Christmas Time. I really enjoy the mystery every year.

Check here to see what others have accomplished so far.

Quilting Today

I pulled out a QOV today to quilt. It's not the normal patriotic colors. It felt good to get back in the machine quilting mode.

I did a free hand meander in a yellow polished poly thread by YLI. I was pleased with all the texture. Someone will love it.

First border of Hearts

I finished enough hearts for the first border. Got it sewn on, pressed. Love it. Hearts are getting appliquéd most every evening. I hope to have this border done by the new year.

Each corner will be a black square with small red hearts (fabric).

This was this morning, Sebastian in the fore ground and Tinker Belle down towards my feet. It seems like Tinker Belle is slowly coming out of her shell.

Only 50 To Go

I have refined my sewing of this step by sewing all the pieces together and the bonus triangles in one sitting for the batch. Each batch is around 50 units.

After sewing, these get clipped apart and the bonus triangles cut off. Snip snip!

Here is this batch all cut apart.

Next is pressing. Yes I know it is time for a new ironing board cover. I don't have any excuses. I have plenty of the same fabric you see.

Here are the units for this step.

Here is the pile of bonus blocks. I love bonus blocks.

After pressing it is back to the cutting area. I trim up each one (if it needs it, most do as I'm not perfect).

Then they join the others, in stacks of ten (10).

Tomorrow I hope to finish step two.

I sewed a side of appliquéd hearts to my OMG quilt. Because of the grey rainy day I didn't even try to get a photo. Maybe tomorrow.

Grand Illusion Step 2

This morning I cut all the parts for step two.

It was very fun to search through my 2 1/2 inch strip bin looking for possible color choices. Most of my selections came from this bin. It still did not make a difference in the amount. I still can't shut the lid lol.

I am using step three to make my blocks. I probably only have 40 sewed so far.

When my brother and wife Marion came for Thanksgiving I had Marion go through my stash. I sent her home with a big bag of stash enhancement.

I'll be sewing some more tonight.
