A Quilty Hug

I made a Quilty Hug and sent to a friend who had undergone some heart surgery and also has thyroid cancer. I hope this quilt comforts her as she recovers. I have hundreds of MAM mile a minute quilt blocks. This quilt and a king size did not even make a dent in the pile. Blogger chose the picture order, ugh.

Those ginormous blocks are part of a retaining wall being built to handle sediment run off.

A First

I experienced the first person to say that they DID NOT want a quilty hug quilt.  What?  I didn't see that one coming.  Well I recovered and gave my quilty hug quilts to patients who DID want them.

Quilty Content

I quilted this top last night and finished it this morning.  Vining leaves on a scrappy top with a medium green thread.  So Fine thread, 80/20 batting.  I also made the binding but have not stitched it on.

I think I have an idea where a lot of these quilts can be donated.  Those receiving chemo surely would appreciate a quilty hug.  I had been wanting a special place for donating and this one just feels right.

With a special place in mind I may be motivated to quilt up some of my many tops.

Plugging along

Did you miss me? Our friends have been here from Scotland we are having a lovely time. They leave tomorrow.

I have managed a few things.

A quilty hugs quilt which is a collaboration of bigger blocks for the spare parts bag.

I committed to two QOV quilts for a November award.  There is a large group of military members receiving them.

I am binding this in hopes that a friend will want to purchase it.

A Quilty Update

 I arranged to drop off Quilty Hug Quilts and have started sharing them again.  For a long time I wondered about not being in the moment when a quilt is given.  It’s taken me 2 1/2 years to come to terms with this. In the end just knowing my quilts get to a cancer patient is enough.  I have grieved over this enough.  I guess this is also part of my grieving process from loosing my husband to cancer 2 1/2 years ago.  It’s time to move on….  So today I dropped off these quilts.

The quilt on the right was made by Kitty at Alefthandedquilter.  Thank you Kitty.  I backed it with very fun flannel.  Chemo patient’s often get very cold when receiving treatment.  

I have two more very close to finishes that will probably get delivered next week.  Then I can see what tops I have to quilt.  Believe me there are plenty!

I am so glad to get going again on this project that is near and dear to my heart ❤️ 

A Quilty Hug

I quilted this top yesterday afternoon in a burst of energy before dinner time.  I went with simple fun circles of different sizes.  Two different fabrics for the back.
 
This quilt will be one of my Quilty Hugs to give at our next chemo session.

Long Overdue Update

I should have posted pictures of Genes quilted top last week but ....  No excuses.  I loved playing with   Genes top and had the best time.

This quilt is going to quilty hugs.

This one will go on the stack for a baby quilt when needed.

Now I need to fire up the embroidery machine and stitch out some labels and sew them on.

Blocks make tops

I have had this pile of neutral string blocks and it was time to use them.  I love how this came out.  This will be quilted for a quilty hug.

BTW I order my new quilting machine Saturday.  HQ Fusion 24 with a ten foot table.   Yippee!

Scrappy Blocks Top Progress

Yesterday I got the first borders sewn on.  For some reason I wanted to continue the darkness.  Maybe because I was going to add in some of my many 4 patches.  I'm really liking where this is going.  It will ne donated as a Quilty hug.  I have five ready to go, only need labels and a good wash.

A few weeks ago I posted about a wool pressing mat that I had bought from Walmart on line.  A few of you wanted my opinion on it.  Well I have used it a lot.  You can tell from the pictures just how much I like it.  No regrets at all on buying this mat.  Love it!

Progress on blocks

I took a bunch of chunk scraps and ran them thru the AccuQuilt cutter. The first picture is the last pile needing pressing.

 

All the triangles sets are now sewed to either a guy color (think light blue) or a lady color (think pink).  

 

 

These two piles of blocks will be put together for quilty hug quilts to be handed out at one of our chemo visits for treatment.

 

 

After trimming I will be playing with laying them out, the fun stuff.

 

These scraps were tamed to two inch strips.  They will be sewn together to make 4 patch units.

 

They are waiting to be pressed and cut.  Scraps make more scraps and more quilts.  What a cycle!

That Scrappy Blocks Top

is a finished top now.  One border side was stitched, ripped and re-engineered.  I didn't want to be quilting wavy borders.  Now it lays flat like it should and I love it.  So much fabulous color.  This top will be quilted up and donated as a Quilty hug for chemo patients.  🐸

The Pro Stitcher

My pro stitcher was finally installed and I am learning by doing. These are not perfect but very useable and will be perfect for quilty hug quilts.  Meastro was my assistant and gave me the thumbs up.
